José Mourinho claimed that Tottenham could be champion in several other leagues, but admitted that it is “very difficult” in the Premier League despite being at the top.
Tottenham had to leave late to beat West Brom when they faced off at the early start on Sunday. Harry Kane’s goal in the 88th minute was the only thing that separated the two sides.
The English forward headed home at the end of the match to score his 150th goal in the Premier League. It ensures that the Spurs have won three league games in a row, but had to work for the last one.
In his post-match press conference, Mourinho admitted that it was a match in which both defenders stood out.
“West Brom’s performance made us play the way we did,” he said. “They were very good defensively.
“We play safe. Defensively we controlled the game well but we couldn’t create many chances.
“In the second half they fell back and in the last stages I wanted to change it and put another forward.”

However, it was all smiles for Spurs in the end, especially as the result brought them to first place in the Premier League table for the time being.
Mourinho’s men have won 17 points in their first eight games. They’ve only lost once in the league so far and some are beginning to wonder if they could push for the title.
“When a team is champion or plays for the title, there is always a direct relationship with its direct opponents. I could say that this team could be champion in many European countries.
“However, it is very difficult in the Premier League. So many good clubs. You can have a good season and still not be champions.
“We will only try to win. I promise you I am not worried about Leicester vs Wolves or City vs Liverpool. I just want us to win games and then we’ll see where we are ”.
Mourinho reveals Hojbjerg’s solution
Tottenham now enter the international break on a high note, but there are question marks about the availability of one of their key players.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has reportedly been advised not to travel to Denmark for his country’s upcoming international matches as he would have to quarantine him upon his return to the UK. That would make him miss matches against Manchester City, Ludogorets and Chelsea.
However, Mourinho revealed after the match that the midfielder could play in Denmark’s away game against Belgium in the UEFA Nations League.
“It seems that we found a solution with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg,” Mourinho said. “The first game is a friendly, it is not necessary.
“In the second game he is suspended and in the third game he can go to Belgium and represent his country.”
