SINGAPORE – Christmas is coming, but Covid-19 measures are here to stay.
Starting this weekend, there will be more controls at food and beverage outlets (F&B) to ensure compliance with safe management measures during the festive period, said the Ministry of Sustainability and Environment (MSE) in a statement on Friday (December 18).
The increased surveillance will continue over the next several weeks.
“While we recognize that many may wish to meet family and friends during the holiday period or visit popular areas like Orchard Road, food and beverage outlets and the public should continue to take safe driving measures seriously as they leave Dining out is an activity that involves considerable risks, ”said the ministry.
“Firm enforcement measures will be taken if violations are found,” he added.
According to the Covid-19 2020 Regulations, social gatherings in groups of more than five outside an individual’s residence are prohibited in phase two.
F&B establishments cannot accept group reservations of more than five, even if those groups are divided into multiple tables.
Mixing of groups is also prohibited.
The MSE also reminded the public that alcohol should not be served or consumed at F&B facilities after 10:30 p.m., and that the current five-person group size limit will apply until phase three takes effect as of December 28th.
“Covid-19 remains a serious threat and we must remain vigilant even during the holiday period. The Government will not hesitate to crack down on operators and individuals who treat safe management measures with blatant indifference,” said the ministry.
“Wandering operators and individuals will face fines, temporary closure and prosecution to the full extent of the law.”
