The Taiwan Tourism Board said on Tuesday (October 3) that countries will not open the border to tourists until the fourth quarter of 2021, while authorities expect air tickets to be more expensive in the future.

The current preliminary list of neighboring countries that Taiwan may open to include Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and New Zealand, authorities said.

The “travel bubble” will be in effect between 2022 and 2023 and tourism may not return to normal until 2024, the Tourism Office said.

The Tourist Office also anticipates that traveling to foreign countries will take longer and require more resources due to the need to stay in quarantined hotels.

In addition, the pandemic has also seriously affected international airlines, especially low-cost ones. Airlines such as NokScoot, AirAsia, Cathay Dragon, and more have completely pulled out of the market as demand dropped sharply amid the coronavirus pandemic.
