SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed the 28th COVID-19-related death in Singapore on Monday and a more than seven-month low of four more new cases, bringing the country’s tally to 57,880.
A 64-year-old male permanent resident, case 57960, died Monday from complications related to COVID-19, the ministry said. The man had been working in India since December last year and was listed on the stay-at-home notice when he returned to Singapore on September 23.
“It was confirmed that he had COVID-19 infection on October 4 and had a history of hypertension. Singapore General Hospital has reached out to his family and is providing assistance to them, ”the ministry said.
The man is Singapore’s first COVID-19-related fatality since July 14.
On the other hand, the daily count of cases reported on Monday is the lowest since March 4, when two cases were reported. All four new cases are asymptomatic and have been proactively detected, the ministry said.
One of them is in the community. The one-year-old is a relative of two previously confirmed cases. All three cases had arrived from India on September 16 and were included in the 14-day stay-at-home notice in a specialized facility.
The other, who resides in a foreign workers’ dormitory, had previously been identified as a contact from previous cases and had already been quarantined and tested.
The remaining two are imported cases, including a PR who returned to Singapore from the Philippines and a work pass holder currently working here who arrived from India and the United Arab Emirates. Both had been listed on the stay-at-home notice upon arrival here and were examined while complying with the notice.

The Health Ministry said the number of new cases in the community has dropped from an average of one case per day in the previous week to an average of less than one per day in the last week.
Similarly, the number of unrelated cases in the community has also decreased from an average of less than one case per day in the previous week to none in the last week.
The ministry also announced the closure of a group in a dormitory on 9 Sungei Kadut Avenue, as there have been no cases linked to it during the past two incubation periods, or 28 days.
99% of all cases have recovered; none in ICU
With 23 more patients discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities on Monday, 57,728 cases, or 99.7 percent of the total, have fully recovered from the infection.
Most of the 48 hospitalized cases are stable or improving, while none are in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
A total of 76 patients with mild symptoms or who are clinically well but still test positive are isolated and cared for in community facilities.
