This was lower than the Singapore Meteorological Service (MSS) initially forecast on Thursday, which predicted an average temperature of 23 ° C to 33 ° C for the first two weeks of January, falling to lows of 22 ° C in some days. .
Similarly, the rain showed no signs of abating on Saturday, with significant rains recorded at Pasir Ris and Changi.
Dr Winston Chow, associate professor of science, technology and society at the Faculty of Social Sciences at Singapore Management University, predicted that the record for the highest total precipitation in a day could be broken.
“The highest total precipitation in a day for January is 216.2 mm for manned weather stations and 238.2 mm for automated weather stations,” he said in a tweet Saturday morning.
“At 10.30am, Changi Airport Station has recorded 159mm of rain since midnight. Since the rise in the monsoon is not expected to end until tomorrow, this record is likely to be broken in plenty of time.” he added.
According to an MSS weather advisory, the first week of the year is likely to be wet and windy, with moderate thunderstorms in the afternoon on most days during the fortnight.
There will also be heavy and widespread torrential rains on the island in a couple of days.
