MAS presents coins of the Year of the Ox

SINGAPORE: The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) unveiled on Thursday (November 19) the Chinese Almanac coins of the Year of the Ox 2021, marking the fifth issue of the Fourth Series of Singapore Chinese Almanac Coins that began in 2017.

In keeping with the park theme and natural landscape of the coin series, the 2021 coins will feature an ox in the context of Coney Island Park.

This follows Kampong Buangkok for the Year of the Rooster, Singapore Botanic Gardens for the Year of the Dog, Pulau Ubin for the Year of the Boar, and the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve for the Year of the Rat.

The obverse, which is the main face of a coin, will bear the coat of arms of Singapore and the year 2021.

There are 10 different types of coins, comprising a variety of minting metal compositions, shapes and relief effects.

The mintage numbers of the coins range from 50,000 for the nickel plated zinc coins with a face value of S $ 2 to just 100 for the 5 troy ounces (155.5 g) 999.9 fine gold coins with a face value of S $ 200.

Special games consisting of different combinations of coins with limited numbers between 50 and 2000 are also available.

Each coin and coin set comes with a serialized Certificate of Authenticity, with the exception of the 2 dollar nickel plated zinc coins that look like evidence.

Numismatists can pre-order at the Singapore Mint from now until December 20, and the coins will be issued on January 1, 2021.

Coins that are oversubscribed will be allocated by voting.
