Manchester United pack up the promising winger on day 5 of the deadline

Man Utd swooped in late in the deadline to seal a deal for promising winger Facundo Pellistri of Peñarol.

The 18-year-old has spent the last two seasons playing in Uruguay’s top division with Peñarol. In the last two seasons, he has appeared in 37 games in all competitions and has scored two goals.

The signing was the fifth of the day for the Red Devils with Edinson Cavan, Alex Telles and teenage center back Willy Kambwala joining in immediately, while Amad Traore to head to Man Utd in January.

Pellistri told the club’s official website: “Joining a club with Manchester United history is a dream come true. I have learned a lot in Peñarol and I would like to thank you for everything you have done for me. Having the confidence of the coach is an incredible feeling and I know that working with him will be perfect for my development.

“I am entering a squad full of great players that I will learn from every day. Everyone knows that Manchester United is a club that offers young players a chance and I am willing to work hard every day to earn those opportunities and prove myself in England.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe he will be a real talent in the long run. While we understand it will take time for him to adjust to the English game, he is capable of making an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.
