Donny van de Beek completed a medical examination in the Netherlands before his £ 40m transfer from Ajax to Manchester United.

The deal, which is estimated at around € 39 million, plus another € 5 million in add-ons, is expected to be completed in the coming days while the player is on international service with the Netherlands.

the 23 years old had his medical exam while he was with the Netherlands team before their Nations League matches against Poland (September 4) and Italy (September 7). She will travel to the UK after those matches.

The Dutchman emerged as probably United’s first summer signing after a personal intervention by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He reportedly rushed the club during the talks to make sure they didn’t get lost.

Van de Beek will sign a five-year contract. That should allow him to be available for United’s opening game of the 2020-21 season, against Crystal Palace on September 19.

The Red Devils want to bring in another midfielder this summer and Van de Beek is that man.

United they have been closely linked with Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish and Leicester star James Maddison.

But it is Van de Beek who is now ready to form a tasty midfield three alongside Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes.

Jesse Lingard and Andreas Pereira are expected to move on, with the pair battling for playing time last season.

HOW UNITED WON THE RACE FOR VAN DE BEEK

A key reason Manchester United was able to usurp Real Madrid from van de Beek has been revealed.

The creative 23-year-old midfielder looks set to become the Red Devils’ first major signing in the summer transfer window.

However, the news will surprise Real Madrid.

The Whites had apparently been leading the race for the Dutchman earlier this year, but Sky sportsTransfer guru Dharmesh Sheth has revealed how Manchester United were able to get ahead of the queue.

Sheth said (via Sky sports): “The pandemic plays an important role in the fate of Van de Beek.

“He was close to signing for Real Madrid and had to undergo a medical examination before the Covid pandemic.

“Real didn’t follow that, Manchester United came in and they are about to get their man.” Read more…
