SINGAPORE – A 21-year-old man who was due to plead guilty on Monday morning (March 22) for sex crimes disappeared after having breakfast with his father and lawyer, and did not appear in court.
The High Court has issued an arrest warrant for the defendant, who is one of two men accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl when she got drunk after a Truth or Dare game.
He faces one count of attempted rape and two counts of penetrative sexual assault. He was 18 years old when he allegedly committed the crimes against the girl on October 17, 2017 at the foot of a floor of the Housing Board on Pasir Ris 51 street.
The parties to the case cannot be named due to a gag order to protect the identity of the victim.
The man also faces unrelated theft charges, causing damage and dishonest misappropriation.
His attorney, Mr. Clarence Lun, told the court Monday that before the court hearing scheduled for 10 a.m., he met with the defendant and his father for breakfast in the adjacent building.
However, around 9:10 a.m., the defendant said he had a stomach ache and went to the bathroom.
Mr. Lun said that when the defendant did not return after a while, they went looking for him but could not find him.
The defendant also did not respond to phone calls or text messages, the attorney said.
His father, who posted bail, told the court that he did not believe his son was not being released on bail.
The question of whether the $ 30,000 bond will be forfeited will be determined at a separate hearing.
The man’s co-defendant, a 21-year-old man, had previously pleaded guilty to raping the girl.
In the early hours of October 17, 2017, the girl became increasingly drunk while playing Truth Or Dare on an empty deck with a group of friends.
When the group left the block, the girl had to piggyback as she was too drunk to walk properly.
At approximately 4 a.m., the two defendants waited for the girl when she stopped to relieve herself at the foot of a block, and separated from the others who had gone ahead.
The girl then rested on the ground.
The duo tried to wake her up and, when she did not respond, they allegedly touched her breasts and raped her.
