SINGAPORE – A man who escaped a police raid in his car, while two other men were clinging to him, was charged in court on Wednesday (December 30) with two counts of causing harm by reckless act.

Ryan Asyraf Mohammad A’zman was a wanted man for skipping bail, police said in an earlier statement.

The incident in the parking lot near the 331 Bukit Batok Street 33 block occurred during a pre-dawn raid to arrest him on Monday.

When the police officers approached him, he allegedly tried to speed up.

“The officers confronted the man, but he refused to obey and tried to escape in his vehicle,” police said.

The 26-year-old Singaporean is said to have backed up his car while two men, Mr. Rubaneshwaran Gnanasubramaniam and Mr. Mohammad Idly Ali, held him by the right arm.

Police said the two men are his officers.

The vehicle pulled onto a sidewalk near a stopped police car and collided with at least two parked cars before accelerating.

Mr. Idly and Mr. Rubaneshwaran were injured in the incident which was captured in a 48 second video uploaded to YouTube.

Police managed to locate Ryan with the help of security cameras. He was arrested a few hours later in a unit in Block 257 Jurong East Street 24.

Ryan is already facing weapons-related charges.

On December 19 of last year, he was allegedly found in possession of a folding knife in a parking lot near Block 157, Serangoon North Avenue 1.

On the same day, he is said to have been found in the company of a man who was armed with a fruit knife in a parking lot near Block 248, Jurong East Street 24.

He was then serving a referral order after his release from prison last year.

As part of the order, it was supposed to avoid problems between May 4 of last year and April 2 of this year.

However, he allegedly raped him by committing weapons-related crimes.

If convicted of these gun crimes, he will have to spend an additional 106 days behind bars.

His case was postponed until January 27 of the next year.

For each count of causing harm by performing a reckless act, an offender can be imprisoned for up to one year and fined up to $ 5,000.
