Man Arrested for Knife Attack on Serangoon Road, Four Others Arrested for Illegal Assembly

SINGAPORE: A 24-year-old man was arrested for his alleged involvement in a case of willfully causing harm with a dangerous weapon, while four other men were arrested for their alleged involvement in a related case of illegal assembly, police said on Saturday. (October 10th).

In a press release, police said they were alerted to a case in which the 24-year-old man attacked a victim with a knife at 525 Serangoon Road on October 8 at 1.30 a.m. An earlier police statement It said a 33-year-old man was attacked.

The attack allegedly stemmed from a heated discussion between the victim and a group of men, including the 24-year-old, police said.

The victim suffered injuries to his left arm and was transferred to Singapore General Hospital while conscious.

Through ground investigations, officers from the Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the 24-year-old man and arrested him on October 9.

Four other men, aged between 22 and 24, are believed to have been present when the incident occurred. They were arrested for illegal assembly between October 8 and 10.

Investigations are ongoing, police said.

Under the penal code, anyone convicted of the crime of willfully causing harm with a dangerous weapon can be sentenced to a prison term of up to seven years, or a fine, flogging or any combination of such penalties.

Meanwhile, anyone convicted of being a member of an illegal assembly can face a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both.

“The police have zero tolerance for such blatant acts and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly ignore the law,” he said.
