Man arrested for knife attack on Serangoon Road

A 24-year-old man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in a knife attack on Serangoon Road.

Four other men, ages 22 to 44, were also arrested for their alleged involvement in a related case of illegal assembly, police said Saturday.

Last Thursday, around 1:30 a.m., police said they were alerted to a knife attack at 525 Serangoon Road.

The 33-year-old victim was allegedly attacked by the 24-year-old man with a knife. The attack allegedly stemmed from a heated discussion between the victim and a group of men, including the 24-year-old.

Police said the victim sustained injuries to his left arm and was taken to Singapore General Hospital.

A day after the alleged attack, the police requested information about the case and were looking for a man to assist in the investigations.

Officers from the Central Police Division and the Criminal Investigation Department established the identity of the 24-year-old man and arrested him a day after the incident.

The other four men, who were believed to be present when the incident occurred, were also arrested for illegal assembly between Thursday and Saturday.

Investigations are ongoing.

Photographs of the incident with various police tents circulated on social media, prompting netizens to speculate about what happened.

It is the second reported knife attack in two days. On October 7, a man was attacked by another man with a knife in a supermarket in Boon Lay.

Anyone convicted of willfully causing harm with a dangerous weapon can be imprisoned for up to seven years, or fined, flogged, or any combination of such penalties.

Anyone convicted of being a member of an illegal assembly can be imprisoned for up to two years, fined, or both.
