SINGAPORE – A man allegedly caught in a viral video that sparked an uproar on Fullerton Road in August appeared in district court on Thursday (December 10).
Hassan Mansoor Mohammed Ameen, 29, was charged with two counts of using criminal force against public officials and two counts of assaulting them.
The Singaporean was also charged with one count of disorderly conduct and harassment.
At 10:39 a.m. on August 21, Hassan allegedly walked in the middle of a traffic junction on Fullerton Road despite repeated warnings from nearby police officers not to do so.
He is said to have used criminal force against Sergeant Muthalif Ragamaan Wahab about 15 minutes later, shoving the policeman in the chest.
Around the same time, Hassan allegedly once struck Sergeant Jonathan Lee Kai Feng’s right cheek.
Hassan is also said to have punched Sergeant Joey Poh Yong Beng in the face, causing bruises, as the police officer tried to prevent him from running in the middle of the road.
Six days later, Hassan was at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) when he allegedly used vulgar language to verbally abuse Certis Assistant Police Officer Cisco Mullai Vanam Muniandy.
He is also accused of assaulting the officer by kicking him in the left thigh.
The court documents do not establish why Hassan was at SGH.
A video of the incident had previously been uploaded to the Beh Chia Lor – Singapore Road road safety community Facebook page.
It shows a group of uniformed police officers confronting a man in the middle of Fullerton Road.
The two-minute-long clip has since gone viral.
The court heard Thursday that Hassan intends to plead guilty to his charges.
His case was postponed until January 5 of the next year.
For each count of assault on a public servant, an offender can be imprisoned for up to seven years and fined or punished.
