SINGAPORE: A man was charged Thursday (April 30) with violating his notice to stay home to travel twice to the Immigration and Control Authority (ICA) building, and once to a hospital.

Ong Chong Kiat, 50, returned to Singapore from Indonesia on March 24 and was ordered to stay home between March 24 and April 7, ICA said in a statement.


He is accused of leaving his apartment on Hougang Avenue 8 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. the 27th of March. He allegedly took public transportation to the ICA building at 10 Kallang Road, with the intention of appealing for permission to leave Singapore before completing his stay. notice at home.

While there, ICA officials advised him to return to his home immediately, and he did so after leaving his home for a few hours.

Ong’s case was deferred until May 15 for a pre-trial conference.

ICA said it investigated Ong’s “willful failure to comply with the home stay notification requirements” and will not hesitate to take firm compliance measures against anyone who fails to comply with those requirements.

A person under a stay-at-home notice must remain at home at all times until the specified period ends.

For each count of noncompliance with his home stay notice, Ong could be jailed for up to six months, fined a maximum of S $ 10,000, or both, if convicted.

He is the latest of a large number of people in court for coronavirus-related crimes.
