SINGAPORE – A South Korean man allegedly made a false statement to Singapore authorities after arriving at Changi Airport on November 25 last year.
45-year-old Ko Kyung Ho is said to have stated that he would honor his stay-at-home notice (SHN) either alone at his home or with members of his household with the same travel history.
But on November 26, when law enforcement officers went to his home in the Charleston condominium on Shanghai Road, near River Valley Road, they allegedly found three members of his family, his wife and two children in the unit, who did not they shared their travel history. .
The Immigration and Control Points Authority (ICA) said in a statement that nine moves were also found in the apartment that day.
Ko, who is a permanent resident of Singapore, was charged on Thursday (April 1) with two offenses under the Infectious Diseases Act.
You are accused of making a false statement in your application to opt out of serving your SHN in specialized facilities. Ko was supposed to have worked at his SHN from November 25 to December 9 of last year.
It is said that he exposed other people to the potential risk of Covid-19 infection at home.
Since August 11 last year, all travelers serving their SHN outside of dedicated facilities are required to use an electronic monitoring device during their quarantine period.
The ICA said that with this improved surveillance regime, the government was able to take a “more risk-based approach” and allow travelers from selected countries or regions to opt out of attending their 14-day SHN in specialized facilities.
Instead, they could serve you in a “suitable place of residence.”
As one of the criteria, the traveler must occupy their home alone or only with members of the household with the same travel history and who are attending their SHNs of the same duration.
Ko’s bail was set at $ 10,000 Thursday and his case was postponed until April 22.
For each count under the Act, a first-time offender can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $ 10,000. A repeat offender can be jailed for up to one year and fined up to $ 20,000.
Foreigners may face further administrative action by ICA and / or the Ministry of Manpower, such as revoking or shortening the validity of permits and passes to stay or work in Singapore.
