KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said on Sunday (October 25) that the Cabinet will discuss King Al-Sultan Abdullah’s rejection of his request for a state of emergency to be declared in response to the COVID outbreak. 19.

The king said Sunday morning that he saw no need to call a state of emergency.

“I am deeply grateful for His Majesty’s trust in my government and I appreciate the advice so that the stability of the government is not compromised,” he said in a statement.

The comptroller of the Royal House of Istana Negara, Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, said the king made the decision after reviewing the proposal with the Malaysian rulers, as well as analyzing the current situation in the country.

The Malaysian rulers expressed their gratitude to the king for consulting them before making any decisions, said the Rulers’ Seal Keeper Syed Danial Syed Ahmad.

THE STATE GOVERNMENTS TO COMPLY WITH THE KING’S DECREE

State government leaders said they would heed the king’s decree to continue enforcement efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Selangor Chief Minister Amirudin Shari tweeted that the state government would fully focus on fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues in the state.

Kedah’s Chief Minister Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said that the king’s decree had encouraged the state government to continue to fight current challenges, especially in dealing with COVID-19.

He said that the Kedah government would do everything possible and consult with all agencies to ensure the COVID-19 pandemic is contained.

Perlis Chief Minister Azlan Man said the government has done everything possible to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak.

“The three most important things that I will focus on now will be the development of the state, the well-being of the people and the efficiency of the state administration,” he told Bernama.

In a Facebook post, Terengganu’s Chief Minister Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar called on all parties to work together to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kelantan’s Chief Deputy Minister, Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, also urged all parties to respect the king’s decree.

“I think what His Majesty wants is for us politicians, in particular, to focus more on the people and the country than on personal interests,” he said.
