Malaysian actor Patrick Teoh arrested for allegedly insulting the Crown Prince of Johor, Malaysia News

PETALING JAYA: Former radio host and actor Patrick Teoh was arrested in connection with allegations of insulting Johor’s crown prince, Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

This was confirmed by his lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam on Saturday (May 9).

“He is expected to be taken to the Johor Bahru Selatan Police Headquarters tonight for shipment tomorrow (May 10),” he said.

According to Rajan, Teoh allegedly shared a video that Tunku Ismail posted last year showing the Prince and others dressed in military garb wielding firearms.

Teoh, 72, is believed to have shared the video on Thursday (May 7) and used profanity when commenting on his Facebook page.

However, checks revealed that the post is no longer on their page.

Initially, Teoh had arrived at the Petaling Jaya Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) at Menara Choy Fook Onn around 8:30 p.m. with your attorneys to record your statement.

Approximately 10 minutes later, Teoh was escorted home in a police vehicle where police picked up a laptop computer believed to have been used to place the mail.

He returned with the laptop about an hour later and spent another hour recording his statement.

According to Rajan, the police summoned Teoh after a police report was filed alleging that he had insulted Tunku Ismail.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal confirmed that Teoh was summoned to give his statement.

“The investigations will be carried out by the Johor police and we are only helping to take their statement,” he said.

The case is being investigated for improper use of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act of 1998.
