KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia announced on Monday (January 11) new nationwide movement restrictions to curb the growing number of Covid-19 cases.
Five states (Melaka, Johor, Penang, Selangor and Sabah) and the federal territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya will re-enter the Movement Control Order (MCO), Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced in a televised speech.
The reimposed measures will run from Wednesday through January 26.
These are the key MCO restrictions:
• Do not travel between states or districts
• Barricades will be established to limit travel to a 10 km radius from home
• People are encouraged to stay home. Only two people per household can go out to buy food
• Only two people are allowed per vehicle
• Social gatherings are prohibited, including weddings, seminars, and group sports.
• They can operate restaurants and street vendors, but only take-out and food deliveries are allowed.
• The operation of supermarkets, health services and banks is allowed, with strict compliance with SOP: always wear masks, use hand sanitizer frequently and observe physical distancing at all times
• Outdoor recreational activities allowed between people of the same household
• No more than two people are allowed to run together at the same time
• Only five essential economic sectors are allowed to operate: manufacturing, construction, services, commerce and distribution, and plantations and basic products.
• Non-essential service personnel to work from home
• A maximum of five people is allowed in mosques and places of worship
