SINGAPORE – Local celebrity Chen Mei Guang passed away on the morning of November 8 at Sengkang General Hospital. He was 88 years old.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, Chen’s son Huang Yi received a call from his mother’s helper on the 7th, stating that he tried to wake Chen up for breakfast, but could not get him to respond. Huang immediately called the ambulance and Chen was sent to the nearest Sengkang General Hospital.

At the hospital, Chen was found to have suffered a brain hemorrhage, and doctors told the family to prepare for the worst. Huang shared that her mother woke up that day with hallucinations, telling them that TCS (Mediacorp’s previous name) called her to film again.

Chen had used a wheelchair due to weak limbs for the past seven years and had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for two years. With a decline in his memory skills, Huang said that his mother kept calling people with wrong names and couldn’t tell the difference between morning and night.

“A month ago, my mother started saying that Medicorp veterans were coming to see her, including Uncle Bai Yan, and it made us wonder if she was going to… too,” Huang shared. Retired Channel 8 actor Uncle Bai Yan passed away in August 2019.

Chen passed away sometime at 8 a.m. on November 8 and was 88 years old. His funeral will be held from Wednesday (11) to Friday (13) at Hougang Street 51, empty deck of Blk 546.
