Liverpool’s Nat Phillips admits he was “jealous” to see his teammates win the Premier League last season, but hopes to participate in future successes.
Phillips has stepped into the gap to become Liverpool’s most unlikely cult hero this season, with his display in the Champions League knockout victory over RB Leipzig last week, his Champions League debut. , garnering rave reviews from fans.
The 23-year-old center-back looked destined for Anfield’s departure at the start of the season, but the club’s mounting injuries have brought him to center stage.
The Reds’ poor form in the Premier League means imminent success is unlikely, but Phillips, who spent last season on loan at Stuttgart, hopes he has done enough to stay at Anfield.
“When Liverpool officially won the league last season I was still in Germany,” Phillips said.
“I drove to the training ground saying ‘You will never walk alone’ from the car.

“I saw how much it meant to those guys and it made me jealous.
“It made me realize that I wanted to feel something like that one day.”
Phillips impressed alongside Ozan Kabak against Leipzig in Budapest, and is expected to keep his spot for the trip to Wolves on Monday.
“It was a huge night for me and my family,” he said of the Leipzig match.
“I never thought at the end of last year and at the beginning of this year that I would play the Champions League.
