Liverpool’s central defense crisis: 3 possible solutions

Liverpool supporters had their hearts in their mouths when Fabinho was left lame in the Reds’ Champions League game against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday.

With Virgil van Dijk probably out for the season and Joel Matip out for the third time this season, seeing Fabinho’s signal to the bench early in the first half was the last thing the Liverpool defense needed.

Sean Bradbury from Echo of Liverpool has reported that Klopp and his team are still waiting for Fabinho’s scan results, but Mirror in England they report that the results indicate that he will not be in shape until after the international break in November.

Either way, Fabinho almost certainly will at least miss the next game against West Ham and perhaps have a much longer period on the sidelines. Liverpool have a real central defense crisis on their hands, as Joe Gomez is the only first team central defender in available form.

With a packed match list, Klopp will have to quickly find a solution or the season could already be lost in the early stages. Here are 3 possible solutions to the central defense crisis, some in the short term and some in the longer term.
