Jack Butland was rumored to be joining Liverpool in 2018 before Alisson arrived. Maybe Michael Edwards and others really think it’s good. The Mirror reports that Butland is in line for a move. The report appears to be largely conjecture rather than concrete, but stranger things have happened.
Look, Adrian’s form and Alisson’s physical form are real concerns. It looks like it could be a critical factor in the season. But this one just doesn’t look right to me. Butland is penalty fee. He’s a decent shot stopper, but he’s not all of that with his feet, which has been one of Adrian’s biggest concerns. I don’t see how incorporating it is necessarily an improvement.
The Liverpool Echo tried to stop him in his tracks, stating that they understand that “Liverpool will not sign another goalkeeper before the national transfer window closes on October 16 with the Reds having no interest in Butland.” The Echo got Thiago wrong so maybe I’m a little more skeptical of them than I used to be. But this story just doesn’t pass the sniff test anyway.
Liverpool will continue with Alisson and Adrian. The most likely scenario is still for Alisson to come back and play the majority of the games. Adrian could cost us a few more goals here and there if he plays. But it doesn’t seem like the club is diving into a limited market for anyone.
