The debate around referees favoring some teams over others has practically dragged on since football began, and the recent introduction of VAR has only added fuel to the fire.
Wherever his loyalty lies, the fan base he is a part of will undoubtedly have an opinion on which team is perceived to benefit the most from decisions made by officials.
But what do the numbers say?
Looking back at the facts and figures from the past five Premier League seasons, Liverpool commit the most fouls of any team before they are shown a card.
In fact, the Reds receive one warning on average for every 7.72 fouls they commit, and Jurgen Klopp’s men earn 10 fewer cards per season than any other team in the top flight; at the other end of the spectrum are West Ham who see a card. delivered for every 5.48 absences.
Interestingly, however, the Premier League champions commit the fewest fouls per season compared to any other team in the top flight.
On average, over the past five years, Liverpool have committed 367.6 fouls per season and, while Manchester City is in second place, at the opposite end of that table is Manchester United.
The Old Trafford club committed the most fouls per season of any other team in the division with an average of 445.8 per season over the past five seasons.
