Liverpool assistant boss Pep Lijnders says forward Diogo Jota has the deadly instinct of a forward to be in the right place at the right time to score.
Jack marked his debut in the Reds’ Premier League on Monday with a goal in the eighth minute to seal the victory over Arsenal.
The 23-year-old moved to the edge of the area, receiving the ball before volleying to Bernd Leno.
When asked if the Portuguese already feels at home after his immediate impact at Anfield, Lijnders was happy to praise the forward.
“For passionate players, there is always a space in Liverpool. He has a great desire to learn our game, he will add something, ”said the assistant manager at Wednesday’s press conference.
“The only thing I found really difficult to train is the intuition in the area, being in the right position to score like the pure instinct of a forward.
“That is what we want from many players, but especially from our three forwards. Him in 10 or 15 minutes [against Arsenal] He’s been in scoring position three or four times, so that’s good. “
Lijnders makes surprising Arsenal claim
Lijnders spoke before the second clash between Liverpool and Arsenal in a week. The Gunners return to Anfield on Thursday to battle for a place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s team rallied 1-0 against to beat Arsenal 3-1 on Monday. After Alexandre Lacazette’s first goal, Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson scored before Jota secured all three points.
“It’s one of my favorite games since I’ve been here,” Lijnders said of the match. “Go down 1-0 playing how we play, without ego, constant team play and being dominant at every key moment.
“Ninety-five minutes of pressing, counter pressing and our preparation was very good. So we are very happy with that game. “
