STRASBOURG, France: An 88-year-old man who was caught speeding at a dizzying speed of 191 km / h on a French country road told officers he was late for his appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine, police said.

The speed limit on the highway where he was stopped on Thursday (February 25) is 110 km / h, police in the eastern Bas-Rhin region of France said on Facebook.

The driver, a local, “gave as a reason for his speeding that he was late for his anti-COVID vaccine,” he said.

Officers confiscated the man’s driver’s license and impounded his car.

“For everyone’s safety, let’s comply with speed limits, even after more than 60 years with a driver’s license,” the post read.

Since January, France has prioritized more than 75 residents in its vaccination program.

The strategy is paying off, Prime Minister Jean Castex said on Thursday, with a drop in the rate of new infections among people over 80. It has been increasing in other age groups.
