Frank Lampard appeared to support goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and gave his assessment of the debut performances of grand prix duo Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.
The Blues he fired an energetic Brighton team to start their Premier League campaign with a victory.

“I don’t want to limit ourselves to just one system. We have three or four players who want to play as a 10 for us, but I want us to be adaptable. We have a lot of attacking players, I want us to be fluid, I want that movement.
“We were not as fluid as we can be today, but we will work on that.”

“I liked Kai Havertz. It’s not a game where you stick with some old moments and there’s a lot on its shoulders, but you saw glimpses of what it can do. Everything I have seen of him is perfect and his quality will be reflected. He has a great talent.
“I loved the way Timo Werner shows up in different areas, he’s hungry to score goals and be ruthless.
“We definitely want to close that gap with Liverpool, we have to have intentions to be there even though it is a great request to win it. We are behind, it is step by step. Hopefully we can make great strides.
When asked about the strong speculation that Chelsea could soon sign a new goalkeeper, Lampard said: “I am happy with Kepa, I saw confidence in him, he is here, he is our goalkeeper and I am happy with him.”
James promises more to come
Match winner James admitted that Brighton proved to be a worthy opponent, but issued a warning to the rest of the Premier League after stating that the best of Chelsea is yet to come.
“We knew it was going to be difficult to come here and we knew we would have to do our best to get the three points and I think we did it,” said the full-back. “We had to go up a gear.
“As the games go on, we only get stronger. There are new players in the team, so we have to curdle and get stronger week after week.
“When you bring in high-level players, it increases competition and makes everyone work harder to get on the team.”
