Lampard details how he intends to get Werner out of shape by shooting again

Frank Lampard has knocked Timo Werner out of shape by working hard on his completion of training in an attempt to get the German to shoot for Chelsea again.

A three-game losing streak and a draw in their last five games has seen the Blues lose ground in the Premier League title race, though their previous 17-game unbeaten sequence keeps them firmly in contention.

One of the reasons behind Chelsea’s fall in form is Werner’s struggle in front of goal with him £ 53 million summer transfer from RB Leipzig has not scored since November 7.

Expert Peter Crouch recently called Werner greedy and urged Lampard to leave the German.

“All the players go through difficult moments in front of the goal. The beauty is that Timo has had opportunities and that is definitely positive, ”said Lampard.

“I found that working in training ground was the only way to turn it around, that finishing rep, that Timo is doing now.

“When you work like this it is a matter of time because his natural attributes will put him in front of the goal and away from the defenders.

“If you lose confidence after losing a partner, it’s natural. My job is to help you with your confidence and push you in a positive direction. Then the goals will come.

“It’s sharp, it can end. And sometimes the onus is on us to get him the ball in the right areas. “

Meanwhile, Lampard refuses to abandon his principles as he seeks to lift Chelsea out of its sterile spell.

Manchester City will visit Stamford Bridge on Sunday and Lampard will continue to reflect on himself in an attempt to engineer a renaissance.

“One of my strengths, hopefully, is never being too excited when we’re doing well. For example, trying to put out the flames after Leeds (Chelsea won 3-1 on December 5) by when everyone was talking about us, ”said Lampard.

“And then my job is not to be too depressed when the results go against us. The first person to push me is me. I do that all the time, for better and for worse, so that doesn’t change much.

Lampard sticks to his principles

“I’m not stupid, I know we need to get results. We want to get results. Do I change things? Sometimes a little bit. I tweak things. I never believe that I have solved it or that an outcome has nothing to do with me.

“You have to search, but you also have to stick to your principles. Sometimes things that are praised when you do it well are criticized when you don’t simply because of the result.

“So you don’t get away from some things, but you sure change others to get there. I do that every day.

“I enjoy the pressure. If I hadn’t, I wouldn’t have gotten into this again. I would have left at the first opportunity and that is something I would never do.

“That doesn’t mean you’re as happy as when you’re on that 16-game unbeaten streak and that’s normal. But it makes me absolutely concentrate. You learn more in defeats and difficult moments.

“It is head-down time. Go down and work. And don’t over-consider the table. We know we are there or there. “
