Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana says Jurgen Klopp “will enjoy” the challenge of dealing with the crisis at his team’s center-back.

The Reds have a fit center back in Joe Gomez following Fabinho’s hamstring injury. The Brazilian fell during Tuesday win over Midtjylland, which adds to the continued absence of Virgil van Dijk.

In fact, Liverpool are awaiting the results of an exploration before devising a further plan. But with West Ham like next Saturday in the Premier League, Anfield manager Klopp must find a solution.

Talking to BT sport, Lallana, who left Liverpool in the summer, he explained how Klopp will react to the situation.

“He won’t use anything as an excuse, he will say it’s the same for all teams,” said the now Brighton midfielder. “(He will say) ‘We have the template to adapt and deal with that.’

“He will face the challenge, the guys will be there tomorrow and they will recover and he will choose a team for the best West Ham.

“Okay, it’s going to be a test, but it’s a test that you will love and the guys will get together and help each other.”

Wonder if Klopp could thrive on stage ‘with his back to the wall’, Lallana added: “Coming from the underprivileged region, he likes that.

“So there will be a little bit of him who will enjoy this test and will be excited.”

Klopp revealed after Tuesday’s game that could end up giving one of his youngsters a Premier League debut.

Indeed, concerns about Joel Matip’s fitness persist, with Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips waiting behind the scenes.

Williams looks like the potential backup after making two Champions League appearances. Phillips, meanwhile, has played once before, in last season’s FA Cup.

However, one expert believes that Jordan Henderson could replace him alongside Joe Gomez.

The pair have played together at the rear once, in Liverpool’s Club World Cup victory over Monterrey last season.

As such, Kevin Phillips feels the Reds captain has what it takes to make his mark on other parts of the team.
