Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he took a serious interest in FC Midtjylland’s ongoing project after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool and their Danish rivals will meet at Anfield on Tuesday in their second Champions League Group D clash.

The hosts are overwhelming favorites for victory, with Midtjylland losing 4-0 to Atalanta last time out.

However, speaking before Tuesday’s game, Klopp warned of the “clear plan” his players will face.

He also spoke of a past interest in the Danish club during his football hiatus after leaving Dortmund.

“Since yesterday I knew a lot (about them). I knew a little about the history of the club but it is a very interesting project ”. Coach he told reporters.

“They are really good and it is a challenge, it is a real challenge and we have to be prepared for it.”

He added: “On my break I was interested in going there for a while to see exactly what they do. But then I signed for Liverpool so I couldn’t do that.

“But it just shows that it was five years ago and it’s a very interesting approach.

“You know what Midtjylland is doing, they can increase or go more directly. If you push them high, they will play for a long time. They have very experienced defenders, good soccer midfielders and speed on the wings.

“They have physicality in the center up front and a clear plan, so we have to see. We have a clear plan that is adaptable, I would say, so we have to try.

“So we have to make a lot of good decisions in the game and we have to be prepared for a proper fight.”

Klopp offers injury update

Thiago Alcantara

Elsewhere in the press conference, Klopp revealed that Tuesday’s game could come too early for his injury absences.

While Alisson Becker returned last weekend, Thiago Alcantara, Naby Keita and Joel Matip remain on the sidelines.

When asked if the trio would perform against Midtjylland, Klopp said: “I don’t think so, it’s still what I said last week. We look from day to day but it seems they will need a few more days.

“So by tomorrow night they probably won’t be ready.”
