Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara could return to training next week, but manager Jurgen Klopp will not rush him.
The international of Spain He played just a game and a half after arriving in September from Bayern Munich before a knee injury against Everton in October left him out.
He’s been scheduled for a comeback in early January and Klopp said he’s still on track for that.
“We already made jokes here that we should sign Thiago by January,” the Reds coach said. “He’s getting closer and closer and he’s on a good path but we won’t rush him, we can’t rush him and he won’t because he’s not allowed to rush him.
“But of course it’s good to have him on the field training, doing a lot of things, but he wasn’t training as a team yet and that’s actually the final step.
“We will see how it is. We see him on the field and next week, can he be training as a team? I don’t know 100 percent right now, some tests that you have to go through until we make that decision.
“Hopefully that’s not just the case (for him), with (James) Milner it will be similar, with Shaq (Xherdan Shaqiri) it will be similar.”
Klopp asks 10 clubs for explanations
Meanwhile, Klopp was asked his feelings after Premier League clubs again voted against the introduction of five substitutes.
There have been two previous votes to allow five substitutes this season that have also failed to achieve a sufficient majority, after the clubs agreed to make the change for the conclusion of the 2019-20 season last summer.
And again, the motion, backed by the FA, failed to achieve the required majority of 14 clubs in a vote at a Premier League shareholders meeting on Thursday.
However, the clubs have agreed to increase the number of substitutes allowed on the bench from seven to nine. which was also the case for the end of the 2019-20 season.
“I don’t think it’s a compromise. I don’t want to make headlines, everyone knows my thoughts, ”Klopp said. “You have to ask the clubs. Ten clubs voted against it, it was not a question of advantages, only the welfare of the players.
“I don’t know what other leagues only have three substitutes. Here is the only league, the championship was decided differently, practically.
“There must be a good reason for it. All clubs want to stay in the league and some want to win the league.
“But here [England] it’s pretty much the only league that does it differently.
“It is not me to give an answer. Ask the others and I’ll try to catch up on all the articles you do about it. “
