Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was unable to go to Germany for his mother’s funeral on Tuesday due to travel restrictions in place amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Klopp paid a moving tribute to Elisabeth after her death, at age 81, but it is understood that she was unable to attend the funeral in person in her native Germany due to fears of spreading Covid-19 strains from high-risk countries.
“She meant everything to me. She was a real mom in the best sense of the word, “Klopp told the German newspaper. Schwarzwaelder Pot.
“As a devout Christian, I know that she is in a better place now.
“The fact that he cannot be at the funeral is due to the terrible times,” Klopp added. “As soon as circumstances allow, we will hold a wonderful commemoration that is appropriate for it.”
Germany has banned travelers from Britain due to new variants of Covid. Exceptions are allowed for people experiencing “immediate family grief”, but quarantine restrictions have been introduced in the UK.
There is a 10-day quarantine period for UK citizens returning from abroad.
Klopp’s father passed away in 2000, at the age of 66, after an illness.
Meanwhile, an angry Klopp tried to prevent a journalist from asking a question after Sunday’s 4-1 loss to Manchester City.
Klopp was down after City changed style to sink Liverpool in the second half at Anfield.
Klopp also had a fight with Sky’s Geoff Shreeves before criticizing an Israeli sports journalist on the pitch.
Reporter Niv Dovrat of the Israeli television station Sport 1 He asked Klopp if his team could catch Manchester City with Liverpool 10 points behind.
However, Klopp was also not very receptive to the question, saying that Dovrat should “better prepare for his job.”
