Despite the traffic light showing the red man, a pair of pedestrians crossed the street at a busy traffic junction in Paya Lebar yesterday afternoon (October 2).

In video clips circulating online, they were seen rushing to the other side of the road when they were hit by a passing taxi.

The impact of the collision sent the man and the teenager flying several meters away.

Moments after landing on the highway, the man stood up and walked over to see how the teenager was doing, according to dashcam footage of motorists at the scene.

He was also seen approaching a motorcyclist for help.

Another motorcyclist helped collect the couple’s belongings that were scattered around the traffic junction.

The taxi, which had braked at the traffic junction after the collision, was seen slowly pulling away from the junction.

The taxi driver stopped on a nearby road and got out of his vehicle to check for pedestrians.

Police said they were alerted to an accident involving a taxi and two pedestrians at the intersection of Paya Lebar Road and Geylang Road at around 3.20pm yesterday.

Paramedics from the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF) were also seen treating the girl at the scene before transferring her to Raffles Hospital.

However, the man, who appeared to be bleeding from the knee, refused to be taken to the hospital after being evaluated by paramedics.

Police investigations are ongoing.
