WASHINGTON (XINHUA, AFP) – A personal assistant to Ivanka Trump, the oldest daughter of United States President Donald Trump, tested positive for the coronavirus, US media reported.

Citing an anonymous source, CNN reported Friday (May 8) that the assistant, who is working personally for Ivanka, has not been close to Ivanka for weeks.

Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, who are President Trump’s top advisers, tested negative for the virus.

The news of the assistant’s infection came the same day that Vice President Mike Pence’s spokeswoman Katie Miller was confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus. A day earlier, a Trump spokesman said the aide to the president, a member of the military who is in close contact with the president, had tested positive.

Amid concerns about the transmission of the contagious disease among top administration officials, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said at the briefing on Friday that measures are in place to prevent the virus from spreading among the staff.

Trump, who along with Pence had negative results on Thursday, said Friday he was not concerned, adding that “strong precautions” were taken at the White House.

He previously told reporters that he would be tested for coronavirus on a daily basis.
