Indian worker killed by steel beam

SINGAPORE – A 39-year-old Indian national died on Sunday (October 11) after being crushed by a steel beam while working.

The man, who worked for Hai Leck Engineering and Construction at 40 Tuas West Road, had been adjusting the lashings used to secure the steel beams to the bed of a loader truck.

The lashings were loosened and one of the beams fell on him, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said on Tuesday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The MOM said it ordered Hai Leck Engineering and Construction, the occupant of the workplace, to halt all loading, unloading and delivery work.

The ministry is also investigating the incident.
