In the worst possible way! – Rafael Nadal admits that he suffered a great scare in Paris
Rafael Nadal says he started his historic win over Feliciano López ‘in the worst possible way’ before finding a way to win.
It was the 1,000th victory of Nadal’s career, a milestone that only three other men – Roger Federer, Jimmy Connors and Ivan Lendl – have reached.
It was not easy at all, although López took the first set. Nadal, however, was able to counterattack to win 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
“I started the game in the worst possible way, especially against a great server like Feli,” Rafael Nadal said after the game.
“After that I played under a lot of pressure for the rest of the game, but I found a way.
“This victory is one of which I am very proud. Personal satisfaction is sometimes greater when you win this type of game than if you go to the court and win 6-3, 6-3 ”.
Nadal, who is seeking his first Paris Masters title, will now face Australian Jordan Thompson after defeating 15th seed Borna Coric in the second round.
