Singaporeans sure know a bargain when they see it.
When Furama RiverFront Singapore launched their Work From Hotel (WFH) passes, it seemed like a good deal. For $ 15 a day, you get $ 10 in credits for meals, free-flow beverages, including coffee and soft drinks, and use of the hotel’s public spaces for more than 13 hours, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Obviously, many thought the same. It wasn’t too surprising that when I arrived at the Furama RiverFront Hotel at 9am, most of the seats in the Waterfall Lounge, one of the three spaces you can work in according to their website, were taken and there was a line of people waiting. to “sign up” with your Work From Home passes.

A young man who was ahead of me in line was turned away because he had not purchased a pass online. The hotel had initially accepted walk-ins, but announced on September 20 that it would no longer do so.
Luckily for me, I managed to get a sofa seat with a friend, even though it came with a low coffee table. A scan around the living room showed that there were several comfortable sofas with higher tables that would make for a more comfortable seating option.
The Good: Lots of decent seats, outlets, and food options
While the Waterfall lounge where I was was packed, it wasn’t uncomfortable, as the hotel had well spaced the seats (in accordance with social distancing rules). And there were floor-to-ceiling glass windows that spanned more than two stories, letting in plenty of natural light.
The staff shared that every day they would only allow 150 people to enter the WFH at any one time. And they would be spread over three levels of the hotel.
