SINGAPORE – After two weeks of sustained rain and cooler weather, Singapore will see drier and warmer weather in the coming weeks, the meteorologist said on Friday (January 15).
Temperatures could rise to 34 degrees C on days with little or no rain and when the winds are light.
Daily temperatures in the next fortnight are forecast to range between 24 ° C and 33 ° C on most days.
Short rains and thunder are also expected in some afternoons during the fortnight due to the strong warming of land areas during the day.
Favorable and occasionally windy conditions are forecast on some days.
While less rainfall is expected in the second half of January than the first, total rainfall for the month is forecast to be well above average due to exceptionally wet weather in the first two weeks.
Precipitation of 648.4 mm in just the first two weeks of January ranks the month as the second wettest since Singapore rainfall records began in 1869, displacing the 600.9 mm in January 2004. The wettest January recorded was in 1893, with a total rainfall of 818.6 mm.
The long rains in the first two weeks were the result of strengthening winds over the South China Sea, causing extensive rain clouds to form over the region, the Singapore Meteorological Service said.
Continued rain in the first two weeks of January caused temperatures to drop to 23 degrees C and below in the first five days of the month.
The lowest temperature on record was 21.1 degrees C in Newton on January 2.
