HONG KONG (XINHUA) – Hong Kong reported 112 additional confirmed cases of Covid-19 on Thursday (December 10), the third day in a row that the number exceeded 100.

According to the Hong Kong Center for Health Protection, 102 cases were local infections, 34 of unknown origin, and the other 10 were imported, bringing the total count to 7,291.

Up to 213 cases with unknown sources of infection were observed among the 623 cases that were recently reported in the past seven days, showing silent transmission chains in communities, said Undersecretary of Food and Health Chui Tak Yi.

He warned that the outbreak in Hong Kong continues to be severe, with an increase in the number of confirmed cases and colder weather allowing the virus to survive longer.

According to the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, 75% of negative pressure beds have been used so far.

Currently 1,135 Covid-19 patients are being treated at 22 public hospitals and the community treatment center at AsiaWorld-Expo. A total of 43 patients are in critical condition.

The stricter social distancing measures went into effect Thursday and will run until December 23.

In addition to the closure of bars, bathrooms, amusement games centers, swimming pools and theme parks under anti-epidemic measures, commercial premises, including gyms, beauty salons, massage establishments, are also closed.

Dinner services in restaurants between 6:00 p.m. M. And the 4.59 a. M. The next day are prohibited.

Other existing measures, such as group gatherings of no more than two people and the mandatory use of masks in public areas, remain in force, while more officials work from home.

Meanwhile, the Executive Council has adopted a legal framework that allows local health authorities to seal off high-risk facilities to test for Covid-19, with the aim of minimizing the possibility of spreading the virus in the community.
