Assistance is being provided to an elderly resident who has been accumulating items in his unit and along the common corridor in Block 3 Telok Blangah Crescent, the city council said.
A Stomper shared photos of the disorder along the block’s third-floor corridor that were taken in September.
The Stomper also sent photos taken on December 5, showing the elderly resident’s unit littered with lots and lots of items.
He said: “The door was left open so I decided to take photos from outside as my concern is for the safety of the elderly resident staying there.
“All of these items on and off the floor are fire hazards that will cause an obstruction during emergencies.”
According to Stomper, he reported the matter to the city on September 23 and the problem was rectified, but not for long.
“Things got worse and the number of articles increased,” Stomper added.
In response to a query from Stomp, a spokesperson for the Tanjong Pagar City Council said it is aware of the hoarding case.
The spokesperson said, “We are working with the Housing and Development Board (HDB), the Senior Activity Center located on the block, and grassroots leaders to help the elderly woman clean up her accumulated items.
“From September, upon request, the old woman will move items from the common hall to her unit, but after a certain period, she will move them to the common hall from inside the house.
“We have reminded the lady to pick up her items in the common hall.”
The elderly resident was also informed that a conservation contractor will help her remove the items if she is unable to do so within the prescribed time frame.
The spokesperson added: “We are working closely with HDB and grassroots leaders to provide assistance to the elderly woman and help her clean up the accumulated items inside her apartment.”
