A woman who wanted revenge on two brothers involved in an attack on her younger brother planned to ambush them.

Being Hari Raya Aidilfitri, he invited them to his home near Jalan Bukit Merah on the pretext of having a celebration.

When the brothers appeared, he locked them on the floor before assaulting them by pouring hot water on them and repeatedly hitting them with a bamboo stick.

Yesterday, Norhayati Jaffar, 37, the mastermind behind the brutal assault, was jailed for five years and four months for voluntarily wounding Muhammad Faizal Omar, now 29, with a heated substance and three drug-related offenses.

On July 7, 2018, Norhayati was having an open house for Hari Raya when a friend showed him a video of his younger brother, Muhammad Putera Shafiellah Jaffar, being attacked by Mr. Faizal and his relatives.

The video, which had been widely shared on Facebook, also shows Faizal’s sister, Nur Farahtika Omar, now 27, watching the attack.

Outraged by what she saw, Norhayati hatched a plan for revenge by inviting Mr. Faizal and Ms. Farahtika to her apartment.

She recruited another brother, Muhammad Bakhtiyar Jaffar, now 35, and her friend, Nurhanifah Juma’at, now 28, as her accomplices.

While waiting for the brothers to arrive, Norhayati directed Nurhanifah to boil a kettle of water.

When the brothers arrived with two friends a few hours later at 12:30 am on July 8 and entered the apartment, Norhayati closed the door behind them.

Norhayati and Bakhtiyar then began to assault Mr. Faizal and Ms. Farahtika while Nurhanifah was filming the incident.

The court heard that Norhayati grabbed a jug of freshly boiled water from the kitchen and poured it onto Farahtika’s neck, back and right ear before striking her on the neck with the jug.

When Ms. Farahtika fell, Norhayati hit her repeatedly with a bamboo stick while Bakhtiyar beat and kicked Mr. Faizal, who was curled up in a fetal position on the ground.

After Ms. Farahtika managed to escape from the apartment, Norhayati turned her attention to Mr. Faizal by hitting him repeatedly with the bamboo stick while her brother continued to hit Mr. Faizal’s head.

As he begged them to stop, Bakhtiyar grabbed him by the hair and hit his head twice against the arm of a wooden chair.

They then dragged Mr. Faizal to a corner of the unit and continued to attack him, hitting and kicking him in the head, torso, and legs.

Norhayati later poured hot water from a kettle onto the left side of Mr. Faizal’s body, causing him to jump off the ground screaming in agony.

He then ran out of the ground-level unit out the back door with his attackers trying to chase him to no avail.

The entire assault lasted about four minutes.

It is unclear how the attackers and their victims are related. The court documents also did not mention what happened to the two friends of the victim.

A video of the incident, taken from multiple angles by Nurhanifah, went viral after it was uploaded to Facebook.

It was discovered that Mr. Faizal had suffered second degree burns to 4.5 percent of his body, while Ms. Farahtika suffered second degree burns to the neck. He also had bruising and tenderness on his right neck and shoulder.

The three drug offenses that Norhayati pleaded guilty to were two counts for methamphetamine use and one for failing to appear for a urine drug test.

Three other counts of causing harm and failing to appear for a urine drug test were taken into consideration for sentencing.

Court documents said Norhayati had failed to show up for a urine test 47 times between 2017 and 2019.

For voluntarily causing harm with weapons or dangerous means, she could have been imprisoned for up to seven years and fined.

His accomplices had previously been dealt with, with Bakhtiyar jailed for 10 weeks earlier this year and Nurhanifah jailed for 15 months last year.
