Go G (e) lamping at the Malay Heritage Center this December

SINGAPORE – Visitors are invited to experience the use of G (e) lamps at the Malay Heritage Center (MHC) this December and immerse themselves in the rich Malay cultural atmosphere of the Kampong Gelam Heritage Site.

MHC opens its venue for the Kampong G (e) lamping @ MHC program and invites the public to experience glamping with a fun-filled two-day itinerary. Discover the cultural gems during the 2 Days 1 Night program and spend a night under the stars on the beautiful grounds of MHC, a National Monument located in Kampong Gelam.

For the experience, two cozy group tents will be set up, one furnished with two queen-size beds and a hammock, and the other for a late-night movie experience with a projection screen, speaker, and beanbags. Both tents will be equipped with decorative lights, a portable air conditioner and fan to keep the heat outside, and cool sheets and duvets for added comfort.

The G (e) lamping experience also includes a guided tour of the heritage site of Kampong Gelam. The two-hour tour will take you to the iconic murals of Haji Lane, help you discover new perspectives of the local bakers and tea makers behind the specialty shops of the district, and also reveal lesser-known stories of iconic places like Mosque. of the Sultan. The group will also enjoy a specially curated tour of MHC’s galleries, including their upcoming special exhibition Urang Banjar: Banjar Heritage and Culture in Singapore.

Personal chef and culinary instructor Ruqxana Vasanwala will prepare an indulgent Malaysian dinner of specialties such as Nasi Kerabu and sambal tempe on an outdoor setting in front of the G (e) lamps.

“We are always looking for creative ways to showcase our rich cultural heritage to Singaporeans. During this time of travel restrictions, we wanted to present a different and novel local experience: G (e) lam-p up Singaporeans’ vacation plans and allow them to rediscover new facets of Singapore’s heritage through this unique experience of the overnight, ”shared Ms Asmah Alias, MHC General Manager.

From December 15-24, a group of up to five can book the G (e) lamping experience, with one space available per day. The experience will be open for reservation tomorrow (October 23) at 12 pm, in order of arrival, on MHC’s Facebook and Instagram. Each space is priced at S $ 450 and can accommodate up to five people, which can include adults and children (two years or older).

MHC will also conduct a drawing for a space for a lucky group of up to five people on its Facebook page. The giveaway will run from October 30 to November 6, 2020, with more details to be released closer to the dates.

All settings and activities offered will adhere to current security management measures and G (e) lam-pers will be required to adhere to general security management measures at MHC during their visit.
