Several customers ruined their Mother’s Day celebrations after the cakes they ordered at a bakery were late or did not meet expectations in terms of taste and appearance.
They were more frustrated by the lack of responses from the confectionery store Gin Thye, despite numerous complaints on its Facebook page over the weekend.
Stomper Roland He said he had ordered a fruit cake for Mother’s Day from the Gin Thye online store in Shopee two days in advance (May 8).
Roland said: “Delivery was scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., but no cake was delivered.
“I called Gin Thye at 2 p.m. and they told me I had to add $ 10 for the delivery from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We agreed and my entire family waited until 9.30 p.m., but still, no cake was shipped.
“The cake arrived at 10:30 p.m. and went straight to the trash when we saw what it looked like.
“Thank you, Gin Thye, for making this happen on such a special day.”
Roland also shared a photo showing how her fruitcake was nothing like what was advertised.
The Stomper had also posted a review on Gin Thye’s Facebook page before his cake arrived.
“Father’s Day, then you send it?” he wrote.
Roland later updated his Facebook review, reporting that the cake arrived at 10:30 p.m. and “went straight to the trash.”
However, Roland is not the only customer whose Mother’s Day celebration was marred by a disappointing cake.
An online search shows that Gin Thye received an influx of negative reviews on her Facebook page over the weekend, but doesn’t appear to have responded to any of them.
Several other customers can be seen sharing photos of how their cakes also failed to meet expectations.
Some customers noted that the fruits used in their cakes had deteriorated, while one customer described Gin Thye’s fruit cake as “a Ru Hua without makeup.”
Another common sentiment among the reviews was Gin Thye’s lack of response and lack of “customer service.”
Stomp has contacted Gin Thye for more information.
