SINGAPORE – A week-long trawl to crack down on criminal activities in Geylang saw 89 people arrested for various crimes, police said in a statement on Sunday (December 6).

Among those arrested were 62 men and 27 women, the youngest being 16 years old and the oldest 94.

The teenager was arrested for crimes under the Foreign Labor Employment Act, while the 94-year-old woman is being investigated for crimes under the Common Gambling Houses Act.

Others were arrested for crimes ranging from the sale of illicit drugs to non-compliance with Covid-19 regulations.

For six days, from Tuesday to Sunday, agents from the Bedok Police Division ran a multi-agency operation in Geylang, with agents from various agencies combing the streets and monitoring massage and entertainment outlets, among other locations.

During the raids, 20 men, between 23 and 55 years old, were arrested for selling illicit medicines, drug-related crimes and belonging to a secret society.
