SINGAPORE: The director of a funeral home charged with wrongful death in the death of her ex-boyfriend returned to court on Thursday (December 10) with her newly hired attorneys, and was referred for further investigation.
The judge accepted the prosecutor’s request for preventive detention on the basis of the “complexity of the charge.”
Alverna Cher Sheue Pin, 38, was charged last week with one count of wrongful death that does not amount to murder.
The founder of City Funeral Singapore is charged with carrying out an act, which was not specified in the court documents, that caused the death of 32-year-old Wee Jun Xiang between 1:44 PM and 5:15 PM on 16 May.
The incident allegedly occurred on Deck 4B of the multi-story parking lot at Block 145A Bedok Reservoir Road.
Police were alerted to an unnatural death case that day, but released a statement regarding Cher’s arrest only in December after follow-up investigations uncovered her alleged involvement in her death.

Invictus Law attorney Josephus Tan told District Judge Terence Tay on Thursday that he would take over the case pro bono along with his colleagues Marshall Lim and Cory Wong.
He made no objection to the prosecutor’s request that Cher be detained for another week for further investigation to uncover evidence.
“This is the second request for pretrial detention for investigations,” Judge Tay said. “I am allowing it based on the complexity of the charge involved.”
According to Cher’s Facebook profile, she is the “boss” of local funeral services company City Funeral Singapore and founder of the CARE planner certification program, which offers services such as will writing and “last trip planning.”
He will return to court on December 17.
If convicted of wrongful death that does not amount to murder, Cher could face life in prison or be sentenced to 20 years in prison and fined. She cannot be spanked because she is a woman.
