Liverpool face the possibility of their four first-choice running backs sitting on the sidelines with injuries, amid fresh concerns about Andy Robertson.
Central defenders Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will be out for the foreseeable future with serious knee injuries.
Also, among the problems of the latter pair was the Trent Alexander-Arnold problem. The right back is in the middle of about four weeks of recovery after getting a calf strain.
As such, left-back Andy Robertson, who has proven to always be reliable as a boss. Jurgen Klopp, remained the only player in Liverpool’s best defense without problems.
However, the Scotsman was not in his country’s call-up for Sunday’s Nations League clash with Slovakia. In fact, head coach Steve Clarke raised the issue in his pregame press conference.
He said: “Andy Robertson is the most dubious of those who have a little question mark on them.”
Robertson is out due to a hamstring strain he suffered during Thursday’s Euro 2020 play-off final. His country’s captain played the 120 minutes and Scotland secured their place in next summer’s tournament.
After the match, the 26 year old revealed that his hamstring meant that he would not have been able to take a penalty in the penalty shoot-out against Serbia.
He said (through the Echo of Liverpool): “I think I was next [to take a pen], or seventh. But my hamstring was paralyzed in the second half of overtime! Just a little cramp.
“It was the left one, so I was a little worried that he would have cramps. But the guys who get penalties are incredible.
“When Marshy’s [David Marshall] in goal you always support him to save one. What a night.”
Liverpool faces central defender’s dilemma
Aside from Robertson’s new concerns, Liverpool face a central dilemma.
In fact, even though Van Dijk and Gomez will be out for the foreseeable future, Joel Matip is not the most reliable defender.
As such, many experts have advised the Reds to enter the January transfer market in search of a new top signing.
TEAMtalk understands that Liverpool are considering trading free agent Daryl Janmaat.
