PUTRAJAYA – Some 10,000 people attended a wedding reception in Putrajaya, Malaysia’s administrative capital, on Sunday (December 20) without leaving their vehicles, in order to comply with Covid-19 health protocols.

The guests simply waved and walked past the event’s hosts, Putrajaya MP Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, his wife, son Tengku Muhammed Hafiz Tengku Adnan and girlfriend Oceane Cyril Alagia, Bernama news agency reported.

The guests then collected their food packages from a tent set up nearby by rolling down the windows of their vehicles.

Tengku Adnan had set up a special stage in front of the Palace of Justice, the main court complex in Putrajaya, where the newlyweds were seated to greet the guests.

The young couple later stopped by the roadside to greet their guests.

The Javanese-themed ceremony began at 11 a.m. and ended around 2 p.m., Bernama reported.

Tengku Muhammed Hafiz said: “The drive-through concept was my father’s idea. I wanted my wedding to be celebrated by all the people of Putrajaya, as they are my family too when I grew up here.”

Sunday was the 70th birthday of Tengku Adnan, who is both treasurer of Umno and secretary of the Barisan Nasional coalition led by Umno.

He was the former Minister of Federal Cabinet territories.
