Jamie Redknapp is convinced Manchester United will achieve their number 1 transfer target, Jadon Sancho, by the end of the deadline.
United had a £ 91 million offer for Sancho rejected by Borussia Dortmund earlier this week, and have since done so. has been in dialogue with Barcelona about Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele.
The red devils are still hoping to make a deal with Sancho before the window closes Monday night, and Redknapp is sure they will.
“It hasn’t happened yet, but I think it will.” Sky sports Expert Redknapp told the Pitch to Post preview podcast.
“You see certain transfers and it is decreasing that way. There are many comings and goings, and when Manchester United calls, or any big club, there is always a premium on the players.
“Dortmund want to get everything they can for someone like Jadon Sancho. I get it. But I think it will be a Manchester United player at the end of the window. “
The main focus of United’s transfer appears to have been on Sancho all summer, and Redknapp says adding competition to the front line could be just what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team needs to be successful this season.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder believes there are merits in players fighting for positions.
He also believes United should act quickly to prevent other European heavyweights from making a move for Sancho in the future.
“I personally believe that if they did not sign Sancho in this window it would not be the end of the world. But if you can get it, of course you want quality around you, “he added.
“The beauty of Liverpool is the simplicity of each week, when everything is going well, you know who the three forwards will be: Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah. It is easy for the manager to some extent.
“But at United, if you don’t bring in another player because you have Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford… Solskjaer obviously feels that one of them is not quite right and wants to bring in a player to maybe add some competition.
Sancho the game changer
“If I felt like I had all three forwards and I didn’t need Sancho, I wouldn’t even be looking for him. But he changes the rules of the game.
“If you don’t sign it now who knows, I could end up going to Barcelona and you end up kicking yourself. I’m sure everyone would.
“There are times when you have to pay and go buy a player, a great player. I know it’s a lot of money, but it’s only in relation to when they signed Wayne Rooney, who was the best young player in the country, maybe one of the best in the world at the time. You had to pay a lot of money for it and when you want to buy the best young players the premium is very high.
“But if you feel like he’s going to make a difference for you, you have to go find him. It’s as simple as that. If that means pissing off a Martial or someone like that, too bad.
“Competition, sometimes, is what you need.”
