SINGAPORE: A foreign domestic worker who attended the same settlement program as a previously confirmed COVID-19 case was one of the new cases reported on Thursday (March 11).

The Health Ministry said there is currently no evidence that the two cases are linked.

The woman, identified as Case 60818, is a 37-year-old Indonesian who arrived in Singapore on January 20 and complied with a stay-at-home notice (SHN) in a dedicated facility until February 3.

A swab test conducted on February 2 during his SHN came back negative, as did a pre-departure test conducted in Indonesia on January 18, the Health Ministry said.

She is asymptomatic.

She was examined on March 9 as part of the ministry’s investigation into case 60666, another Indonesian foreign domestic worker who was among the confirmed cases reported on March 6.

Case 60666 also tested negative for the virus when a swab was taken during SHN in Singapore, but it tested positive after conducting a pre-departure test prior to his return to Indonesia.

The CNA has asked the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Manpower for more details on Case 60666, including why he was leaving Singapore just over a month after his arrival.

Case 60818, Thursday’s case, was later sent by ambulance to the National Center for Infectious Diseases. His serological test was positive, indicating a probable past infection, the Health Ministry added.

“However, as we cannot definitively confirm his date of infection, we will take all necessary public health actions as a precautionary measure,” the ministry said.

“As an additional precaution, the Health Ministry screened all those attending the installation program for foreign domestic workers on February 4, attended by Cases 60666 and 60818, although they were not close contacts.

Based on epidemiological investigations, the two cases have likely been infected separately before and there is currently no evidence that they are linked, the Health Ministry added.

Eight new cases of COVID-19 were reported Wednesday. The remaining seven cases are all imported.
