SINGAPORE: A local flour mill was fined S $ 3,000 on Wednesday (December 9) for failing to keep its licensed facilities clean and pest-free.
In a press release, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said it found “cockroaches and signs of rodent infestations in the food processing area” during an inspection of the Dawood Flour Mill & Provision facility on January 29. .
There were also several lapses related to the poor cleaning of the premises, the agency said.
The plant’s operating license was suspended by SFA for 15 days between January 30 and February 13.
The suspension was lifted after Dawood Flour Mill & Provision rectified the failures and took steps to improve the cleanliness of its facilities, the SFA said.
“Food safety is a joint responsibility, as food can be contaminated anywhere in the food chain,” SFA said.
He added that while the agency continues to be vigilant and works to ensure that regulatory measures are properly implemented and enforced, industry and consumers must also play their role.
“All food operators must ensure that their facilities are clean and well-maintained, and that staff are adequately trained in proper food safety management,” he said.
Enforcement actions will be taken against food operators who do not comply with regulations or comply with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Violators face a fine of up to S $ 10,000, a maximum jail term of 12 months, or both.
