SINGAPORE – On Saturday morning (August 29) a fire broke out in one of the units at The Peak in Toa Payoh, leading to the evacuation of 300 people and the transfer of three more to hospital.
According to the Singapore Civil Defense Force (SCDF), they received a distress call around 2:55 a.m. that a fire had broken out in Block 138C at The Peak, which is located along Lorong 1A Toa Payoh.
The fire involved the contents of a unit that was located at 20th floor but managed to affect the unit directly above it on 21S t floor too.

SCDF firefighters arrived at the scene with respiratory equipment and immediately began to tend to the fire once they arrived at the unit on the 20th.th floor. They managed to rescue two people from the unit who were inside the bathroom.
Meanwhile, another occupant of the unit had managed to self-evacuate before the SCDF reached the scene.
At the same time, firefighters also broke into the unit above on the 21S t floor and managed to extinguish the ongoing fire within that unit as well. The residents of that unit managed to self-evacuate before the SCDF arrived.
According to the SCDF, one person had suffered smoke inhalation and burns, while two others complained of smoke inhalation and all were taken to Singapore General Hospital. All three were located at 20th floor.
Police also managed to evacuate another 300 people from neighboring units as a precaution, but they have since been able to return to their homes.
Member of Parliament for the area, Chee Hong Tat, wrote on Facebook: “I would like to express my thanks to our residents who alerted their neighbors and called SCDF last night.”
He continued: “Your swift response has helped save lives and has allowed affected residents to evacuate safely. I am happy to hear that the neighbors help each other during this emergency. Thanks also to our SCDF firefighters for putting out the fire and keeping everyone safe. “
He added: “This incident is a reminder of the importance of fire safety and evacuation procedures and also why residents must keep common hallways and stairways unlocked to ensure everyone’s safety.”
